The Race for a Mace

We’re all buffed up with tons of stamina, five levels higher than before and got far better gear then we could get from Ulduar. So why did I go there yesterday with some of my guild members? The almighty legendary mace that is why!

Many of us wanted to go get the Proto-Drake from the hardmodes as we simply did not have that many people to do it before and we also want to get the guild achievements. My reason for going is to finish my mace off as I had collected and paid with DKP a whole nine out of thirty fragments! Yeah you read that right, a whole nine out of thirty. What was more painful was we only have three bosses left to kill and so far only one fragment has dropped making my total go up from nine to… ten!

On top of the fact the fragments are rare to drop from bosses there’s the issues which I have used as the subject of this entry. A race tends to have more than one person taking part, and that’s the case for this mace. To be honest I was somewhat willing to pass the fragments to anyone else in the guild who had more fragments then me, but I knew I had the most. However this didn’t stop the issue that people were actually wanting to roll for every single fragment making it less and less likely the guild ever getting the damn thing as each fragment gets rolled for and given to someone else each time. I’d probably not care so much if wasn’t for the fact I spent a stupid amount of DKP to get the first fragment and fought for them each time, perhaps I hoped the fighting would stop now that it’s “old content”. I was proven wrong.

In other news Disc Priests should be jumping for joy right now. The one thing I hated about Holy was their talent Holy Concentration which meant spirit was pretty much super awesome for them and Disc priests were left wondering whether they should respec or flood themselves with so much spirit. Well it got nerfed! And what did we get? Rapture got buffed, Focused Will got buffed, Grace got made so it can be active on more than one person, Shield got buffed… you know I could be here all day so lets just say we got totally buffed up and feel pretty darn chuffed about it.

Okay well that’s me out for a while. Sorry I haven’t posted in ages but it was Christmas, got sick (still am sick), slowly got to Level 85 and right now too fearful to heal a heroic after hearing so many horror stories. Gulp!



Discipline Gets Buffed

Disc priests out there must be jumping for joy after hearing the updates being placed in the beta.

  • Power Word: Barrier duration reduced to 10 sec, down from 25 sec. No longer absorbs a given amount of damage, now reduces all damage done to friendly targets by 30%. While within the barrier, spellcasting will not be interrupted by damage.
  • Divine Aegis now also procs from all heals from Prayer of Healing.
  • Grace now increases all healing received from the Priest by 4/8%, up from 2/4%.

What does this mean? Blizzard are trying to make it so Discipline priests can be single and multiple target healers. Power Word: Barrier make last for only 10 seconds compared to now, however it no longer absorbs a given amount of damage so it won’t just disappear when that amount of damage has been dealt to the Barrier. You will find the glyph for Barrier much more useful now so you better have learnt it! Divine Aegis now procs on Prayer of Healing, making this heal a must cast spell for Disc priests.  Fantastic! As for Grace… come on what can I saw apart fomr WOOHOO!

Seriously these small updates on Discipline really have got me hyped for the expansion. I really hope these don’t get removed or changed back to their old ways. Fingers crossed, just incase!

In other news MMO-Champion posted nice pictures of the Tier 11 gear including Death Knight and Priest Normal AND Heroic. I actually like the Priest set and don’t care much for the helm, but that’s what Hide Helm is for. 😉


News from the Beta

So it’s not long til December and we all rush off to get our copy of Cataclysm  or if you pre-ordered it online then you’re probably going to find yourself sitting by your mailbox waiting for the moment the postman arrives to put it inside only to have you tackle them down like a crazed animal. I know I probably will! But there are still updates being put into the beta. Here’s a small view of what has been placed into the beta as of late.

Female Worgen! They have their own dance moves and it’s Lady Gaga’s Poker Face. Also if you haven’t already seen the transformation from human into Worgen then do check this out. Think Blizzard have done a good job on this.

This video shows the other 3 new dances. Personally I’m a bit of a fan of the Goblin Female dance. Not really feeling it for Male Worgen or Male Goblin as they just don’t seem to fit the race, least to me they don’t.

Racials of which include some form of resistance of a type of magic will be changed so that they no longer reduce the chance to be hit by it but will actually increase their resistance to it. These include Blood Elf (Arcane Resistance), Draenei (Shadow Resistance) and Dwarf (Frost Resistance). No word on the Night Elf Nature Resistance as of yet but I am counting on that to also be part of the change. Worgen’s Aberration will also be changed to be resistance of Nature and Shadow effects instead of reducing the duration of Diseases and Curses.

Now on to some Death Knight and Priest changes that have not long been put into the beta!

Death Knight
Unholy Might
now increases your Strength by 10%, down from 15%.

Inner Fire now increases Spell Power by 531, up from 425.

Holy Nova affects target within 10 yards. (Tooltip fix)
Binding Heal base healing increased by 20%. From 3295-4237 to 3959-5091. Now costs 28% of base mana, down from 29%.
Prayer of Healing now costs 26% of base mana, down from 36% of base mana.
State of Mind no longer affects Renew, affects Prayer of Mending instead.
Chakra no longer works with Renew. No longer costs mana. Sanctuary (Prayer of Healing, Prayer of Mending) now increases healing done by your AoE spells and Renew by 15%. (Old – Only increased AoE spells by 10%)
Revelations now has a 40 sec cooldown.
Rapid Renewal (Tier 4) *New* – Reduces the global cooldown of your Renew by 0.5 sec.
Tome of Light is now a Tier 3 talent, down from Tier 4.


Vampiric Embrace now heals you for 6%, down from 15%.
Improved Mind Blast now reduces healing by 10%, down from 25%

Lots of changes for Priest in this beta build and I’m happy to see the Inner Fire being buffed up some more with extra Spell Power bonus.

Other news Deathwing means serious business and Blizzard are making sure we know he’s not only something we should fear but his name is The Aspect of Death. You will find him randomly picking on a zone as the sky goes dark and Deathwing flies over and breathes fire down upon the poor land below him. You will also get an achievement if you are caught by him and his deadly firey breath and killed as well as given a repair and a corpse run. Blizzard really want us to understand that he is  around and he will continue to keep us fearful of his wrath. After all look at the mess he has made of Azeroth! He’s not taking things lightly and we shouldn’t either.

Hallows End

So it’s Hallows End in Azeroth, and many people who don’t already have the achievements are working hard to complete it, specially now that the only way to get the 310% mount speed without paying 5K gold after the patch is by getting the meta achievement finished and getting your Violet Proto-Drake.

Sadly poor Chako and Léal have a long way to go. I was not too fussed before about getting the achievements before and just did them if I felt like it. Léal was never too bothered either, however we both got Brewmaster together. Things have changed, I want to get my 310% mount speed at some point but I don’t want to pay a stupid amount of gold for it. Sorry Blizz but what you are doing isn’t fair. I missed out on the Ulduar runs with my guild due to moving house and I missed out on the Icecrown hardmode mount runs they did because I became a full time parent. Of course I’ll still try out for the mounts, mainly because it’ll go towards my 100 mount achievement.

So hope you are all enjoying Hallows End and also have a good time this Halloween!

Priest Disc Glyphs

As of patch 4.0.1 several new things have happened, including new glyphs and once you have learnt a glyph you know it for life. But what glyphs are helpful as a priest healer?

Glyph of Penance – Reducing the cooldown of your speciality spell really is useful. Penance is a heal that Disc priests should be using when it’s available.
Glyph of Power Word: Barrier – This will increase healing when inside the barrier by 10%. Casting this over your group or raid members at the right time with this glyph on will really help when comes to healing and trying to be careful with your mana consumption which will be something that’ll be on your mind come Cata.
Glyph of Power Word: Shield – Shields are still important as a Disc priest and the healing bonus from this glyph just means you should have this in one Prime slot.

Glyph of Divine Accuracy  – Presuming you have taken the Smite healing talents then this is a must have as it gives you the hit you need for Smite healing.
Glyph of Inner Fire – You should always have Inner Fire up and the extra armor ain’t exactly all that bad.
Glyph of Fade – This just reduces the cooldown of Fade. Not fantastic but options start to get a bit so-so in the Major Glyph section.
Glyph of Mass Dispel – Err yeah… can be rather handy in fights where you require to dispel often. Learning it will be helpful but I’d just use vanishing powder and remove one if dispelling a large amount of people is something I need to do in an upcoming fight.
Glyph of Pain Suppression –  I have to admit, I don’t have this talent no more as I just don’t use it and no one cares for it no more. This of course could change, but it’s been the case for a while now. If I did have it then this could be something I’d consider taking.
Glyph of Smite – not really very good unless you are hitting stuff with Holy Fire first and I have yet to find myself doing this.

Glyph of Fading – Just reduces the cost of your Fade spell.
Glyph of Fortitude – Again it’s a mana reduced glyph.
Glyph of Levitate – No need for bloody feathers!
Glyph of Shadowfiend – I don’t have this but some people like this. If your fiend dies from damage you receive 5% of your maximum  mana.

Welcome to Weakened Soul. A blog by a Priest and a Death Knight. My name is Chako and I am a Healer most of my time, specced Disc pretty much since Icecrown Citadel where I just felt Holy was not my style of healing. Léal is my (Death) Knight in (not so) shiny armour. He plays both DPS and Tank, though we tend to group up together as Healer and Tank. And so it somewhat made sense for us to make a blog together as the two important roles in a group. The one who takes it in the face and the one who makes the pain go away.
